Daniel first became involved in Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in 1993 by joining a short-term missions trip originating at the YWAM center in Hong Kong. During the trip’s outreach to India he first felt the desire (i.e. call, leading, hunch, whatever…) to share Jesus in the nations of Asia. To facilitate this idea, Dan joined YWAM’s Discipleship Training School (DTS) in 1994 and returned to Hong Kong where he served until late 1996.
Meanwhile, Jennifer was also completing a DTS at YWAM’s Hawaii location (learning about Jesus on the beach sounds nice, eh?) and went on to serve as a nanny for YWAM’s first church planting team to Kashmir, North India. After being forced to evacuate by the day-to-day violence in the region, she joined the Hong Kong base for a short time in 1995 (after Dan cleverly invited her to take part in the Asia-focused outreach).
After moving to the States in ‘96 and being married in ‘97 (see, the invite worked!), Dan and Jen took 2 years time to live and work in the States (outside of the cross-cultural/missions environment).
In 1999, Daniel and Jennifer rejoined YWAM and studied at their Trinidad, Colorado location in a School of Church Planting and Leadership Development. The goal, at that time, was to join a team and move to India to ‘learn the ropes’ of Church Planting among Muslim peoples. The presence of quite a few India-focused long-termers in Colorado led Dan and Jen to join a Muslim-focused, India-based, house-church planting initiative in December of ‘99.
Upon arriving in India, they joined a School of Islamic Studies, studied language, and then moved to Delhi, India to minister to Muslims with a small group of people who had a vision to see Indian Muslims meet Jesus and worship together in simple, reproducible house-church fellowships.
After spending 5 years pursuing their goals of reaching Muslims through friendship evangelism, they identified a new strategy. They felt God was leading them to use media tools (i.e. internet, mass marketing, and video) to share the gospel with Muslims around the world.
In January of 2005, Daniel and Jennifer and kids left their old stomping grounds in Delhi, India to train in Perth, Australia with Create International - a frontier missions media ministry of YWAM. They spent a year there training and coordinating future ministry partnerships while planning the longer term goals of pursuing media ministry back in Asia.
Daniel and Jennifer shifted their work to Chiang Mai, Thailand in early 2006. There, they helped pioneer the Create Thailand ministry center, a YWAM ministry focusing on using technology, media, and the arts to help reach the many Muslims of Asia.
Once the early pioneering work was winding up in early 2007, they returned to New Delhi, India for 10 months where Jennifer took over the operation and ministry relationships at a Muslim women’s gym. Daniel, meanwhile, began developing a Muslim-focused evangelistic website targeting young Indian Muslims.
Their time in India came to a close in May 2008 when they returned to Chiang Mai, Thailand in order to help pioneer a strategy for reaching the Muslims of Thailand. They currently work with YWAM and other missions to help communicate the Gospel to Muslims and to see culturally relevant churches planted among the various ethnic Muslims groups in Southeast Asia.
