Can you say Cigarette? I knew you could.
Published 4 years, 1 month agoEliyas came home this weekend with a Thai vocabulary book that we were supposed to read from. You know how it goes… sound out the words, memorize for future use, and so on.
So we get down the page a bit and see a pic (yes, the one in the post) of a couple lit-up cigarettes. Hmmm. We look in the Dictionary and confirm that they are, in fact, trying to teach these kindergarden kids the word for cigarette.
What in the FLIP is going on here?
We all remember the arguments made back in the late 90’s about how Camel was supposedly targeting kids bacause of it’s cute camel ad packaging. Man, that was nothing compared to this. This is just bizarre. Maybe it’s simply an odd, culturally-influenced set of vocabulary words.
But let’s hope they don’t introduce any other vice-related vocab until… gosh… at least 2nd grade.
